Ready to be Wild
Disney’s Animal Kingdom has never been my favorite park. A little over a year ago, I would have suggested you skip DAK on your next trip, but with reimagined attractions, lands, and dining, this park has become un-miss-able on any Walt Disney World vacation.
Recently, I experienced extra magic with a backstage look at the iconic Kilimanjaro Safari and was able to explore some other new additions to the park, now celebrating 20 wild years!
Kilimanjaro Safari
What is a visit to this animal kingdom without a tour of the magnificent animals that call it home? I have enjoyed the safari on so many trips with family and friends, that it tends to be something I skip on solo park days. However, when an opportunity arose for a backstage, early morning tour of this attraction, I couldn’t say no!
In addition to exploring the backstage ins and outs of how the safari comes to life for Walt Disney World guests, I had an extraordinarily active, early morning look at the animals who live on the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
Lions, Giraffes, and Elephants, Oh My!
There are tons of interesting and exotic species to see on the tour, but these three were the most memorable from mine. I saw giraffes eating and taking an early morning rest and elephants with their new babies.
Most exciting of all, I finally had the opportunity to hear a lion roar! This was especially exciting to me because I had never even seen the lions moving during my previous safaris. Backstage tours are always a great chance to see something special. If you’re looking for a way to add some tailored magic to your next trip, that’s the best way to do it!
Maharajah Jungle Trek
If the roughly 18-minute safari isn’t long enough for you, or if you just love animals a lot, then the lesser known Maharajah Jungle Trek should be your next stop. This hidden gem is a gorgeous way to learn about the world and the animals around us. Plus, this trek ain’t bad when it comes to Instagram worthy photo spots! The best part for me was seeing a tiger, up close and personal! They are so gorgeous and serve as an incredibly real reminder of why keeping our planet clean is crucial.
Harambe Fruit Market
I am primarily motivated by the promise of yummy treats. Climbing from least favorite, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has become a spot I look forward to dining in. Of all the snacks in the park, I’m most excited when the Harambe Fruit Market is grilling up fresh corn! They cover it in melted butter and a dusting of curry powder- so fresh and delicious.
Up! A Great Bird Adventure
Up! is one of my favorite Pixar films so it was great to see the outdated bird show get a cute overlay. The show was vibrant, colorful and cute! I loved the costumes the cast wore, I smiled like a kid when Russel and Doug joined us to explore and I sat in awe as I watched the birds fly above me! This show is a great place to relax for a bit in the shade while learning new things and watching the animal kingdom and a Pixar classic come to life!
